Autumn brings two of the biggest opportunities for community entertainment: Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night. From spooky school celebrations and fancy-dress parties to organised fireworks displays and large public events, October and November are packed with occasions where families are looking for something to do.
At BB Castle Hire, we provide bouncy castle hire, inflatable games, slides and other event attractions for suitable autumn events throughout Leicester, Hinckley, Loughborough, Coalville, Lutterworth and the surrounding areas.
Inflatables can be a brilliant addition to large public events, particularly when organisers want to provide dedicated children's entertainment before the main evening activities begin.
There is, however, one rule that must never be overlooked: no bonfires, fireworks, sparklers, naked flames or other ignition sources anywhere near a bouncy castle or inflatable attraction.
Halloween Events Need More Than Pumpkins and Costumes
Halloween has become a major date for schools, community organisations, sports clubs and event venues.
A well-planned Halloween event might include fancy-dress competitions, spooky decorations, food stalls, children's entertainment and a range of activities for families.
Bouncy castles can provide a dedicated play attraction while other Halloween activities take place elsewhere at the venue.
For younger children, a themed bouncy castle or suitable inflatable from our Combos & Slides range can provide active entertainment during a Halloween party.
For larger Halloween fun days, consider adding Interactive Inflatables or a Assault Course to provide different activities for visitors.
A Halloween event doesn't need to involve anything frightening to be enjoyable. Many families simply want a seasonal occasion with decorations, costumes, games and plenty for the children to do.
Guy Fawkes Night: Entertainment Before the Fireworks
Bonfire Night events often attract families who arrive well before the scheduled fireworks display.
That creates an opportunity for organisers to provide daytime or early-evening entertainment, subject to suitable weather, visibility, operating conditions and the event's safety arrangements.
Inflatable attractions can be incorporated into a designated family entertainment area, physically separated from the fireworks display site, bonfire and all associated hazardous activities.
For larger organised events, options might include:
These attractions can help create a fuller event programme rather than leaving families with nothing to do before the fireworks.
Inflatables must never be operated within a bonfire or fireworks hazard area. Where safe separation cannot be achieved, inflatable hire should not proceed. In many cases, the appropriate arrangement will be to operate inflatables earlier in the day and have them fully shut down and cleared from the affected area before any pyrotechnic activity begins.
No Open Flames Near Bouncy Castles: An Essential Safety Rule
This is particularly important for Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night events.
Bouncy castles and other inflatable equipment must be kept away from ignition sources and anything capable of causing heat or fire damage.
That includes:
-
Bonfires: Never position an inflatable close to a bonfire, even if the fire will not be lit until later.
-
Fireworks: Launch areas, fallout zones and spectator exclusion areas must remain clear of inflatables.
-
Sparklers: Do not allow sparklers to be used near inflatable equipment.
-
Naked flames: Keep candles, flaming torches and similar decorations away from inflatables.
-
Barbecues and fire pits: These must be positioned away from inflatable entertainment and its operating area.
-
Hot equipment: Generators, heaters and other equipment with hot surfaces must be safely positioned and managed according to their operating requirements.
Even a small spark or hot ember can damage inflatable material. Fireworks also introduce risks from falling debris, unpredictable wind conditions and crowd movement.
Simply positioning a bouncy castle a few metres from a bonfire is not an acceptable safety strategy.
There is no universal safe separation distance for every event. The organiser's firework and fire risk assessments, relevant guidance, site layout and professional safety advice must determine the necessary exclusion zones.
Where fireworks or bonfires form part of the event, tell BB Castle Hire before booking so the proposed inflatable arrangements can be assessed.
Large Public Halloween and Bonfire Night Events
Inflatable entertainment can be particularly useful at large public occasions where organisers need attractions for different groups of visitors.
A school Halloween fair may require a relatively small selection of equipment, while a large community event might need several inflatable attractions alongside food stalls, games and other entertainment.
The important thing is to plan the event as a whole.
For larger Fun Days, consider how people will move between attractions, where queues may form and which activities are appropriate for the expected participants.
A 65ft Graffiti Obstacle Course may be worth considering for a substantial daytime event with sufficient suitable space. Interactive games such as Bungee Run or Gladiator Duel provide different types of participation, subject to the product's operating and user requirements.
Our Event & Package Deals can also help organisers compare combinations of attractions rather than arranging everything individually.
Plan Separate Zones for Entertainment and Fireworks
A successful large public event needs a sensible site layout.
For Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night celebrations, organisers should identify the different functions of the site before deciding where any inflatable equipment will go.
Consider separate areas for inflatable entertainment, refreshments, spectator viewing, pedestrian routes, emergency access and any fireworks or bonfire operations.
The fireworks and bonfire areas must have their own properly assessed safety distances and exclusion zones. Inflatables must be outside those zones and must not obstruct emergency routes, exits or access for event personnel.
Think carefully about crowd movement too. When a fireworks display is about to begin, large numbers of visitors may move towards the viewing area at the same time. Inflatable attractions should not create obstructions or unsafe congestion during that transition.
If the inflatable operating period ends before the fireworks, allow sufficient time for participants to leave and for the equipment to be safely taken out of service.
Autumn Weather Matters for Inflatable Hire
October and November can bring rain, strong winds, colder temperatures and shorter daylight hours.
These conditions need to be considered before booking outdoor inflatables.
Wind is especially important. Inflatable attractions must only operate within the manufacturer's permitted wind limits and the applicable safety requirements. If conditions become unsuitable, equipment must not be used.
Outdoor inflatable installations generally require suitable real grass for secure anchoring. The ground must also be appropriate for safe installation and use.
Organisers should consider whether the planned operating hours will extend into darkness and whether suitable lighting and supervision arrangements can be provided.
BB Castle Hire will assess the suitability of the proposed setup, but event organisers should also have contingency arrangements for poor weather.
Indoor Halloween Parties Are Another Option
Not every Halloween celebration needs to be outdoors.
School halls, community centres and other suitable indoor venues can provide an alternative for children's Halloween parties, particularly when the weather is unpredictable.
Depending on the available space and ceiling clearance, organisers might consider a bouncy castle, Soft Play & Ball Pool or one of our Disco Domes.
A Disco Dome can be especially relevant to a music-themed Halloween party because it combines inflatable play with lighting and sound.
Remember that Disco Domes use flashing lighting effects and may not be appropriate for people with light-sensitive medical conditions.
Our Venues For Hire directory offers local venue ideas and guidance on checking dimensions, access and other practical requirements.
Halloween Fundraisers and School PTA Events
Halloween fairs can also be an opportunity for schools, charities and community groups to raise funds.
A school might organise a costume competition, refreshments and inflatable activities as part of a seasonal fundraising event.
Interactive equipment can provide opportunities for organisers to create their own participation formats. For example, a football target game could form part of a paid-entry activity, with the school or charity setting its own rules and arrangements.
Browse Charity & Fundraising and School Events for further ideas.
For Guy Fawkes Night fundraisers, any inflatable activities must remain separate from fireworks, bonfires and other ignition hazards, with the necessary safety arrangements in place.
Generator Hire for Autumn Event Sites
Large outdoor events don't always have convenient mains electricity where the inflatables need to be installed.
BB Castle Hire offers Generator Hire options for suitable inflatable bookings, which may help when an event is being held on a school field, sports ground or other outdoor location.
Generators must be positioned and operated safely, with particular attention to exhaust gases, hot surfaces, fuel storage, cables and access restrictions.
They must also be kept away from public access and any fireworks or bonfire hazards, in accordance with the event's safety plan.
Tell us what equipment you intend to hire and what electrical facilities are available at the site so the requirements can be considered in advance.
Safety, Insurance and Professional Installation
BB Castle Hire has been providing inflatable hire services since 2013 and understands the importance of planning equipment hire for different types of events.
Our inflatable equipment is built to BS EN 14960 requirements and receives PIPA or RPII inspection where applicable. Electrical equipment is PAT tested, and we carry £5 million public liability insurance.
Risk assessments can be supplied where required, and inflatables are installed according to the requirements of the equipment and location.
However, the organiser remains responsible for the overall event safety plan, including fireworks arrangements, fire safety, emergency procedures, crowd management and any permissions required for the event.
Further information about our equipment and procedures is available on our Health and Safety page.

Planning a Halloween or Bonfire Night Event? Book Early
Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night fall within a busy period for seasonal events, and larger bookings benefit from advance planning.
If you're organising a public event, provide as much information as possible when enquiring, including the proposed date, venue, expected attendance, available space, operating hours and any fireworks or bonfire activities.
For events involving fireworks or bonfires, the inflatable entertainment must be planned as a separate, safely located activity. No open flames, sparklers or fireworks near the bouncy castles.
