Why Do Inflatables Need a Continuous Power Supply?
Most of the inflatables in our hire range rely on a blower to maintain inflation during use. The blower therefore needs an appropriate power source throughout the period in which the inflatable is operating.
At a home or suitably equipped venue, mains electricity may provide the straightforward answer. Move the same event onto a large outdoor site and the situation can change completely.
The nearest building might be a considerable distance away, or the available electrical supply might not be suitable for the planned equipment. That's when alternative power arrangements need to become part of the event plan.

A generator isn't the only solution available for every suitable booking. Our Petrol Fan provides an alternative to a conventional electrically powered inflatable blower.
Instead of generating electricity and then using that electricity to operate an electric blower, a petrol fan uses its own engine to provide the airflow required by an appropriate inflatable setup.
This can make petrol-powered equipment useful when the chosen setup position is well away from a practical electrical supply. Suitability depends on the inflatable and event circumstances, so the power method should be considered as part of the overall booking rather than chosen in isolation.
Start With the Inflatables, Then Work Out the Power
The easiest way to plan power for an event is to decide what you actually want to hire first.
One Bouncy Castle presents a different requirement from a field containing several inflatables. A Slide, Assault Course and several Interactive Inflatables may all need to be considered when planning a larger setup.
Tell us what equipment you're considering and where the event is taking place. That gives us a much more useful starting point for discussing power than simply asking for “a generator” without knowing what needs to run from it.
School Fields Are a Classic Example
Schools often have exactly what larger inflatable events need: substantial outdoor space. What they don't necessarily have is a convenient electrical socket beside every part of the playing field.
Alternative power can therefore become an important part of planning a summer fair, sports celebration, reward day or other outdoor school event. Instead of positioning every attraction according to the nearest building, the available field can be assessed together with the practical requirements of the equipment.

Community fun days and fundraising events can take place on sites designed for sport or recreation rather than temporary entertainment. The available power infrastructure may therefore be some distance from the area best suited to inflatables.
Planning the power supply early gives you a chance to consider the site as a whole: where attractions will stand, how visitors will move between them and where the practical infrastructure needs to go.

Large company events often have enough space to create several entertainment zones, but the equipment may be spread over a much wider site than at a conventional private party.

Don't Choose the Inflatable Position Based on Power Alone
Finding electricity doesn't automatically make a location suitable for an inflatable.
Outdoor inflatables generally require suitable real grass for secure anchoring. The setup area also needs sufficient space for the complete operating dimensions of the product, together with appropriate clearance from obstacles.
Before settling on a location, consider:
- Ground conditions and anchoring requirements
- Trees, fences, buildings and overhead obstacles
- The full operating space required by each inflatable
- Vehicle and equipment access
- The location of other attractions and event infrastructure
- How the required power will be provided
Treating power as one part of the site plan, rather than the only consideration, helps produce a much more practical setup.
Power Planning Becomes More Important as the Event Grows
A larger booking can include several electrically powered items, so don't assume that a power arrangement suitable for one attraction will automatically support everything else you decide to add.

Generator and Petrol Fan Safety
Generators, petrol-powered equipment and inflatable blowers need to be used appropriately as part of the overall event setup. They shouldn't simply be added wherever there happens to be spare space.
BB Castle Hire supplies power equipment in connection with suitable inflatable bookings so that the requirements of the equipment can be considered together. Our electrical equipment is PAT tested, our inflatable equipment is built to BS EN 14960 requirements and receives PIPA or RPII inspection where applicable, and we carry £5 million public liability insurance.
